This study aims to examine the suitability of visual literacy activities in 5th and 6th grade Turkish textbooks for higher-order thinking skills. The research was conducted using document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods. The textbooks in question were used as the data collection tool in the study, while descriptive analysis was used for data analysis. Within the scope of the research, visual literacy activities were examined in the context of skill areas and higher-order thinking. The findings were presented in tables based on frequency data and supported by examples of activities taken from the books. The analysis revealed that visual literacy activities were most prevalent in the themes of Game World and Getting to Know Atatürk in the 5th grade Turkish textbook, and in the theme of Different Worlds in the 6th grade Turkish textbook. While activities related to reading skills were most commonly found in visual literacy activities, an analysis of their relationship to higher-order thinking skills revealed that, in both textbooks, these activities were most frequently associated with decision-making skills; based on these findings, various recommendations were made.
