The aim of this study is to reveal the tendencies of graduate theses that examine the effects of artificial intelligence applications—which increasingly permeate various aspects of human life with rapidly developing technology—on basic language skills. Within the scope of the research, how artificial intelligence applications are positioned in basic language skills education, the ways in which they are associated with language skills, which specific language skills are predominantly focused on, the objectives of the studies, research methodologies employed, findings reached, and their alignment with general trends in the literature were evaluated. The study was conducted using a qualitative research approach, and descriptive content analysis was adopted. Theses included in the study were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria determined by the researcher. Accordingly, theses accessible in the National Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) were scanned using relevant keywords, and 72 studies related to the subject were identified. Considering the criteria set within the scope of the research, 39 theses were excluded, and 33 theses that met the inclusion criteria were examined in detail. The examined theses were analysed in terms of their aims, problem statements, targeted language skills, artificial intelligence applications used, sample characteristics, research designs, instructional techniques/strategies, and findings. Based on this analysis, the tendencies of the theses were identified, and patterns across the results were revealed.
